Martin Takes Over as President of Weathering Services Group
CHICAGO (October, 2001) - Atlas Electric Devices Co. announces the appointment of Larry W. Masters to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. In his new position Masters will oversee Chicago-based Atlas Electric Devices Co. and Atlas Weathering Services Group (AWSG).

In 1993, Masters was appointed President of AWSG, which encompasses South Florida Test Service in Miami, Fla., DSET Laboratories in Phoenix, Ariz. and AMTT Laboratories in Lochem, The Netherlands. Masters led AWSG in the implementation of core programs in quality management, automation and research and development.
Before coming to Atlas, Masters was with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for almost three decades. He was Group Leader of Organic Materials at NIST's Building and Fire Research Laboratory from 1977 to 1991. Masters then joined the staff of NIST's Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Office, and in 1992, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Factory Automation Systems Division in NIST's Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory. While there, he assisted in managing programs to provide a focus for national research and standards efforts related to information systems for manufacturing.
Masters is a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) where he was named a 1993 Fellow of the Society. He has chaired ASTM Committee E-44, and received the ASTM Award of Merit. Masters is a past U.S. delegate to RILEM, has served as a member of the RILEM Coordinating Committee and is the past chair of the National Academy of Science and Engineering Standing Committee on Materials Engineering. He is also a recipient of the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal. Masters holds an M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from American University and a B.S. in Chemistry from Shepherd College.
Jack L. Martin is taking the helm of AWSG, succeeding Larry Masters as President. Martin comes to this position with more than 18 years of extensive experience in the field of weathering. As President of AWSG, Martin has pledged to continue to stress advancements in quality, automation and research and development.
Martin started his weathering career with DSET Laboratories in 1983. He relocated to Florida in 1986 to manage DSET's Everglades site. Martin was appointed Site Manager at Everglades Testing Laboratory in 1989. In 1995, when Atlas purchased DSET, Martin was named Site Manager at South Florida Test Service in Miami.
Martin is very active in ASTM, SAE and other standards activities. He has also authored papers and technical publications on weathering. Martin received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University. He most recently obtained an additional B.S. in Business Administration and Professional Management at Nova Southeastern University.
