Atlas Offers State-of-the-Art Surface Evaluation With VIEEW™ Digital Image Analyzer
South Florida Facility Provides Clients Quicker, More Accurate Analysis
CHICAGO (April, 15, 2002) - Atlas Weathering Services Group (AWSG), a division of Atlas Material Testing Technology LLC, a global leader in weathering testing, services and technology, today announced the addition of the VIEEW™ Digital Image Analyzer to their South Florida Test Service facility in Miami, FL.
Developed by Atlas, the VIEEW Digital Image Analyzer allows laboratory personnel to analyze surface structures faster, more accurately and with enhanced reproducibility by classifying samples according to the nature and severity of the surface degradation they incur. Its combination of sturdy hardware and intelligent software makes it an indispensable laboratory tool for the objective inspection of surface defects.
"VIEEW allows our laboratory personnel to work faster and smarter. With these advanced surface analysis procedures, we are not only improving the level of testing conducted, but also the level of customer service we are able to deliver," said Oscar Cordo, Manager of Technology, Atlas Weathering Services Group.
The VIEEW system consists of a solid temperature-resistant and shock-resistant cabinet, an integrated black and white CCD camera and high-end apochromatic lenses. The camera and lenses are used to capture data from the sample, which is then transferred into an intelligent and teachable processor to be analyzed, evaluated and stored.
In addition to its durable hardware, VIEEW also offers unique, cutting-edge software designed to allow the development of customized tests and assessments. The classification of surface damages on the sample, such as gravel impact, cross hatch, filiform corrosion and delamination are done in accordance with current industry standards or specific customer specifications. This exciting software has allowed VIEEW to enhance the classification of samples, taking them to a new level of quality, convenience and repeatability.
A key component to the VIEEW system is its unparalleled optical illumination system. This unique optical system allows for the use of two distinct illumination geometries created by separate light sources, direct and diffused. Direct light, which is produced by a power LED, examines top layer defects such as scratches or chipping, while diffused light, produced by several color LEDs, examines the effects that cause modifications to the surface contrast, such as color changes. These light geometries can also be combined to analyze samples that exhibit both characteristics, allowing Atlas to continue to provide its customers the most advanced testing solutions in the weathering testing industry.
"AWSG is very pleased to have the VIEEW system up and running at our South Florida Test Service facility. This advanced technology and cutting-edge software allow us to continue to meet our goal of providing our customers with the highest quality testing services available," said Jack Martin, President, Atlas Weathering Services Group
